A hand-crafted ketubah takes special care to create. Time requested may vary according to my workload and commitments at the time of commission, but 4 months is often requested. Less time may be needed for a simpler ketubah.
The first meeting is a free consultation, where we view my portfolio, discuss the collaborative process, and consider early ideas. Upon commissioning the ketubah, we meet for in-depth discussion and brainstorming, drawing upon different sources for inspiration. With the ketubah texts that each couple brings me, I work closely with their rabbi or appropriate person, to check my final work for accuracy.
At this point, I take time to “percolate” concepts and discussions, gain greater insight and envision possibilities. From this reflection, thumbnail sketches are developed. After meeting to discuss the sketches and choose overall direction, a final, detailed drawing is made. At the next meeting the drawing is viewed and discussed. Any modifications that are desired are then made, and all final points are agreed upon. Meanwhile, papers are researched, reviewed, and chosen with care.
From here the marriage contract will be created.
Upon completion, artwork is presented to the couple mounted onto firm foam-core board, with a clear, mylar cover for protection and display (if desired) at wedding reception.
